Damage Policy
1. Renter Responsibility The renter is fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle that occurs during the rental period, including but not limited to — collision damage, interior damage, tire damage, wheel damage, glass damage, and any damage caused by misuse or negligence.
2. Pre-Rental Inspection Before taking possession of the vehicle, a joint inspection will be conducted between Chariot Rentals and the renter. Photos and/or video will be taken to document the vehicle's condition. By accepting the vehicle, the renter acknowledges the pre-rental condition as documented.
3. Post-Rental Inspection Upon return of the vehicle, a post-rental inspection will be conducted. Any new damage identified will be compared against the pre-rental documentation and the renter will be held responsible for all new damage found.
4. Reporting Damage Any damage, accident, or incident that occurs during the rental period must be reported to Chariot Rentals immediately by calling 773-703-3142. Failure to report damage may result in additional fees and forfeiture of the security deposit.
5. Damage Charges Damage charges will be assessed based on the actual cost of repair, including:
- Parts and labor
- Diminished vehicle value
- Loss of rental income during the repair period
Charges will be applied to the payment method on file or deducted from the security deposit. If damages exceed the security deposit, the renter will be responsible for the remaining balance.
6. Cleaning Charges Vehicles must be returned in the same condition as received. A cleaning fee of up to $300 will be charged if the vehicle is returned with any of the following:
- Excessive dirt or mud on interior or exterior
- Food or drink spills
- Pet hair
- Smoke or vaping odor
- Stains on seats or carpet
- Excessive trash that requires more than 5 minutes to remove
Normal wear and light cleaning is expected and will not trigger a fee. The cleaning fee amount will be determined based on the level of cleaning required and will be charged to the payment method on file.
7. Insurance Renters are required to carry valid personal auto insurance that covers rental vehicles. Proof of insurance must be provided prior to vehicle release. Chariot Rentals is not responsible for filing insurance claims on behalf of the renter. The insurance must cover the full market value of the vehicle.
8. Prohibited Uses & Accelerated Wear Damage resulting from prohibited uses — including but not limited to track use, off-road driving, smoking, or transporting pets — will not be covered by the security deposit and will be billed in full to the renter.
9. Security Deposit A security deposit is collected at the time of booking. This deposit may be used to cover damage, cleaning fees, late return fees, or any other policy violations. Unused deposits are returned within 1-3 days after the rental is complete.
